Ability to Work and Care for the Children

The home business arena is booming for many reasons but one in particular is that it provides individuals with the opportunity to earn a living working from home and care for their children while doing so. The ability to work and care for the children at home is a highly desirable factor associated with owning a home business.

Convenience

The convenience factor is also readily visible in the home business sector. One who works from home has the convenience of not having to commute to and from work, ability to get to work as early as they want or as late as they wish and take breaks during the workday to tend to other important issues. The convenience of working from home is an extremely attractive quality.

Casual Environment

If one has had to wear suits to work each and every day in the past when they worked for a company or corporation, they are sure to appreciate the desire for a casual environment which they can obtain by working from home. Depending on the business one undertakes from home, they might just be able to go to work in jeans and a t-shirt. This is especially true if the venture is one which deals mainly with a technological aspect such as owning websites.

Cut Down Costs

An additional factor which individuals should keep in mind when they are interested in starting a home business is that it is a great way to cut down on extra costs. When an individual works outside of the home, they will most likely have to pay for certain items such as gas for the travel to and from work, tolls and lunches. If one owns a business outside of their home then the costs are sure to increase. By having a business at home one is able to cut down extra costs which are seen when working at an office outside of the house.

I started doing sales consulting for a start up company working with my dad?
My background is in software sales for a well known technology company and I’m certified in several different areas. I wanted to venture out on my own, but my dad had a friend starting up a company, my dad was going to work for and my dad asked me to work with them as well. I never met this guy, my dad’s friend, I guess they worked together a few years ago when my dad was having tough times, his company went bankrupt and he had to work for a company that I had never heard of. My dad and I have had our ups and downs. Anyhow, I wanted to help my dad, and it is working from home so I agreed. Well, were selling sales training to midmarket companies. The person doing the training is apparently a Ph.D. and published author, I never heard of him, but the owner can’t stop talking about him. Anyhow, I just found out his Ph.D. is from a shut down diploma mill, although he doesn’t know I know. I found out because I had never heard of the university he got his Ph.D. from so I looked it up and found out a bunch of stuff on it being a diploma mill. I’m not going to say anything. Also, the book he contributed to, not wrote, well, I looked it up on Amazon.com and his name isn’t even listed on it, but on his website, he lists his name on it. On Amazon.com, his picture isn’t even on the cover, but on his website, the book shows his picture on it. The reason I ask, is because I try to ask them their strategy, what exactly were selling because everything seems so shady to me from the start and I never get a straight answer from anyone. The only thing the owner keeps stating is our trainer is a Ph.D and author, that should be enough for people to buy our services. I personally don’t think it is at all. I have friends that our Ph.D’s, from universities that are known and even they have trouble finding jobs, so it’s not a good enough reason for people to buy from us. I want to tell my dad, but I know he needs extra money, this is why I’m helping, and I don’t want to hurt his feelings. What should I do?? The owner isn’t my dad’s best friend by any means, but my dad is a nice person and the owner offered my dad a very generous commission structure. The only problem is the person were selling doesn’t seem completely legit and I’ve never sold anything that was a lie. Whenever I ask questions, it’s like I get shot down for asking and then when I don’t ask, they get paranoid and call me up 3-5 times a day. The owner also says he wants to sell the business in 10 years and were all going to get a piece of that, but the trainer is about 70 years old, so who’s gonna buy it when he’s 80? All of this stuff I did not know when my dad asked me to join. I am finding it out on a daily basis. Is he still going to be traveling and training business owners for a large fee at 80 years old?? What should I do?

You need to quit and tell your dad everything, that you don’t think it’s legitimate. I think you, and your dad, are being scammed by this "friend."

If for whatever reason your dad refuses to listen to you, you need to get yourself out of this dangerous business.

I agree that you need to get out, and to be honest with your dad, you need to tell him why.
It will be hard, but you could give him his place as your father and still be honest to yourself.

Perhaps you could say at some point (before the fat hits the fire) that you owe your dad a great debt. he has brought you up and given you many of the values you have in life.

When you were a kid and a teen I am sure he taught you the importance of telling the truth and being kind to people. tell him that. And then say that you hasver felt unhappy for some time about the credentials of the trainer and feel it would not be honest to sell his products to people when he has been shady about his education and is selling on the strength of his degree.

Tell your dad that it would be going against all the best he has taught you to stay and be a part of it. I wouldn’t criticize him if he stays. he has got to make that decision for himself. But stressing the values he passed on to you might soften the blow of you leaving, and give him food for thought.

May I wish you the best? You are a sound and honest person and deserve a job you are happy in.
